So next week Citrix Synergy 2012 will be held in Barcelona, I’m scheduled to fly on Sunday in the afternoon and I’ll be joining Remko Weijnen and Ingmar Verheij for some tapa’s when I’ve landed and dropped my stuff of at the hotel (I’m staying in the AC hotel which is near the International Convention Centre of Barcelona (CCIB) btw). I thought it would be a good idea to share my schedule and expectations around Citrix Synergy in this blogpost.
My schedule:
So I’ve got a busy week as there are some meetings not displayed on this schedule, I’ve got the free exam planned on Thursday morning (XS6) but I’m not sure if I’ll make it due to some serious lack of time to study for this exam but as it’s a free exam I’ll probably just give it a try anyway.
My expectations..
I’ve got some high expectations around this upcoming event, I’ve got big hopes for updates on Project Avalon, a subject on which I wrote a previous blogpost: Citrix: Project Avalon.. Integration is the new innovation!.
Also the rumor about a Citrix/Cisco acquisition is getting louder, I wonder what this would to to VMware and it’s software defined data center as they bought Nicira and DynamicOps recently. I think Cisco has a great concept with their VXI architecture based on FlexPod or vBlock (what ever storage you prefer ;-)). They’ve got a good partnership on the storage side with NetApp and EMC, they know how to do Networking and their UCS computing platform is build from scratch to support virtualization. The only thing missing in this concept is in-depth knowledge of server/desktop virtualization and with Citrix added to their company this could be a great combination.
Another subject I expect to hear from is the combination of apps and data, this isn’t a new subject for Citrix as they are providing them both for quite a while now but I do expect some new developments around this subject as both CTP’s Pierre Marmignon and Stephane Thirion had an interesting discussion about this topic following a blogpost based on a Geekspeak session at E2EVC from Stephane.
Of course I’ll be meeting a lot of old friends (and we will try not to get arrested ;-)) and hoping to meet up with some new friends as well, cheers and I’ll see you all in a couple of days!
