Citrix XenDesktop 4 – Supported configuration?

This afternoon Rob Sanders posted a link to  CTX114501 Supported Databases for Citrix Products, I’ve seen this matrix before but I did notice something in this matrix. The following products aren’t supported by Citrix on a supported Microsoft database platform:

  • Citrix SmartAuditor 1.2
  • Citrix EdgeSight for NetScaler
  • Citrix XenApp Fundamentals 3.0
  • Citrix XenDesktop 4.0
  • Citrix XenDesktop 3.0

Especially the last two are noticeable, they are supported by Citrix when they run on SQL 2005 SP2 but this is out of support by Microsoft:

So reading this it’s suggested that there’s no way to have a fully supported Citrix XenDesktop 4 configuration on a Microsoft SQL platform

Microsoft RDS, RDS Gateway, RDS Web Access and SSO

A colleague of mine wrote a design for a customer based on Windows 2008 RDS with a RDS Gateway and RDS Web Access with Windows 7 and XP workstations, when accessing published applications the single sign on worked but when publishing a desktop the single sign on failed. We logged a call at Microsoft Support and after extensive troubleshooting we couldn’t directly solve the problem. Microsoft created a fix for this bug in Windows 8 and back ported it to Windows 7 but our customer wanted to deliver the applications on multiple, managed and unmanaged platforms so we advised them to implement Citrix XenApp with a Citrix Access Gateway so the new requirements and old requirements could be fulfilled.

Create mandatory profile and use this in RES Workspace Manager

After my last post I got some feedback about the use of mandatory profiles and how to implement them using RES Workspace Manager. First of all you have to create a mandatory profile for the OS you want to use. Let’s say you want to create a mandatory profile for Windows 7.  Microsoft published a great how-to on their website containing the following steps:
