Opening MMS via a URL in Windows Media Player on Citrix XenApp 6.5

I was configuring a Citrix XenApp 6.5 farm and we created some instruction video’s for the users to get used to the new interface and structure, we offered those video’s (*.wmv) via a URL on a streaming server via MMS. So far so good but when clicking on the button linking to the wmv’s files the wmv’s wouldn’t start. Apparently this is a common problem because Citrix released a kb article on it: Citrix XenApp 6 is Unable to Open MMS Files

Shortname issues with Citrix XenApp and Citrix PVS

I was working on a new Citrix PVS image for one of my current projects and the test before running the P2PVS.exe were good, all my apps worked like they should so I prepped the server for the imaging (preparing antivirus, last PVS optimizations and a full pre-scan of my VM) and I ran P2PVS.

Troubleshooting session log offs on Microsoft RDS

At the moment I’m helping out on a project that has a Windows 2008 R2 RDS farm with some problems. The issue that was seen was that at random moments the users could log on to a server but was logged of immediately with out any errors in the event logs. First thing I did was install the missing updates and searched for hotfixes for the RDS farm and found KB2312539. It’s a pretty big list containing the current hotfixes for RDS:

Citrix: Is there a future for thin clients?

Last month Barry Schiffer and I did a presentation on E2Evc, the subject? “Enterprise clients. when to use what and why?”

The last couple of meetings I had with customers this was a very hot topic, people are rethinking their client strategy with BYOD and CYO as alternatives to their traditional desktop strategy. Citrix: Microsoft Lync stopping machine shutdown/log off

During the last couple of projects I did I noticed that Microsoft Lync would prevent my session to log off normally, either on a Citrix XenApp/XenDestop or normal fat client deployment. Somehow running Lync stopped the logoff process and I would the error  “This program is preventing Windows from logging off”:
