Being involved with the EUC space I get to talk about virtual desktops.. A lot. Sizing them is something that gets discussed a lot but what components do we actually need in a desktop? What is the anatomy of a desktop from a ‘physical’ perspective. Although it’s going back to basics I do think it’s good to take a step back every once in a while and reevaluate decisions.

Testing the VMware OS Optimization Tool
A couple of months ago VMware released a beta tool to help optimize your image for your VDI/RDS deployment, when you look at the VMware OS optimization tool it will report possible optimizations for your image and if needed it can execute the optimizations so you have an optimized image based on the recommendations from VMware.

Microsoft announced the cross platform Remote Desktop Services client..
On the 18th of October this year Microsoft announced the Remote Desktop Services client for Android and iOS, bringing the Windows desktop to phones and tablets. Although at first I couldn’t find any additional information it looked like Microsoft has an agreement with iTap as the RDP apps for iOS, Mac OS X and Android platforms from iTap are discontinued as of 18th of October as stated here.
How to add Google Search Provider with RES Workspace Manager
During my latest (and greatest) project I got the request to add Google as default search provider to Internet Explorer. Luckily I was able to leverage RES Workspace Manager to add the search provider in Internet Explorer.
Application compatibility.. No longer an issue?
The last couple of weeks I saw a lot of discussions on application compatibility for the Hosted Private Computer Infrastructure (HPCI)/ Hosted Shared Computer Infrastructure (HSCI). I was wondering if application compatibility still is an issue as we have plausible alternatives.
